Solomon “Sonny” Carrington III

The Carrington family has always been dedicated to harboring a community around Boston’s Black musicians and artists. Their work in uplifting this community can be seen and felt everywhere, across so many schools, jazz clubs, and community centers. Jazz has been at the center of Solomon “Sonny” Carrington III’s life for as long as he can remember. His father, Carrington Sr., would have world-class jazz musicians like Fats Waller playing for him in the family’s living room. With that level of talent at his fingertips, it is no surprise that at a young age, he and his siblings would form the Carrington Trio, kicking off a life of performing. After spending years rubbing elbows with many music legends like James Brown, Stevie Wonder, and BB King, Carrington would go on to found the Boston Jazz Society, a group dedicated to instilling a love for music into the area’s youth.
